MISSION STATEMENT

The Friends of McConnell Springs, an independent not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, works in a partnership with the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Division of Parks and Recreation dedicated to the restoration and preservation of McConnell Springs as:


· A national historic site, recognized as the naming place of Lexington, Kentucky;


· A vital educational resource for culture and the natural environment; and


· A passive recreational park.

Preservation of the historical structures and restoration of the pre-settlement vegetation are key elements in the plan to develop The Springs as an outdoor educational center of regional importance. While open daily to the public for recreational hiking, birding, and exploring, The Springs’ main emphasis is education — offering exhibits for the casual observer and formal programs for schools in the region.
